DJ Sprinkles
Where Dancefloors Stand Still

★★★★

Ok let's be fair here, it's a mix of other people's great music. But it's admirable in a sense too; respecting both the present and the past, with some great selections and superb mixing skills. DJ Sprinkles is always great at creating the atmospheres in house music that I've been looking for.

It's got the echos, the smoky and dark light to it. However in this setting it remains an uplifting collection of music from a time (somewhat still around) during which people came together despite their background, for the music. There's not a lot of moments like that in music history; a lot of genres are fostered from the splintering of different groups. House music was a force for cultural acceptance one way or another and that aspect has interested me.

It would move the dance floor but I appreciate it more for my own home, own comfort. Taking each step as it comes, like waves from the ocean. Unlike a lot of her other work, this is less politically or culturally motivated. The context behind is concerns the curfew clubs in Japan have at 1 A.M., but just listening to this mix you wouldn't catch that at all.

I've also figured out that some of the 12 inches on here are pretty rare, so this is good if you want a hard copy of them. Not only does Sprinkles help keep the spirit of house music alive, but she adds to it with each release. This one is filled with pure musical freedom and ecstasy.
