John Cage / David Tudor
Music Of Changes
★★½
The music of John Cage is no doubt some of the most important music of the last century. But releases such as this are only truly understood with their entire context presented to the listener. Even with that information, this isn't necessarily something everyone would want to hear. It's in no way conventionally beautiful or enjoyable. And while I don't think it's one of the more interesting or compelling pieces from Cage, it is a look into his mind. It's fascinating to see how mathematically calculated this, maybe if I was more educated or interested in the subject it would be more important to me. But listening to it gives you the idea that this is almost completely random. I like to think that's my Western ears lying to me.
